Fishing today

Went fishing this morning just near Jackson and caught 5 nice large mouth bass.

Fishing yesterday

Supper yesterday
I have escqped from the madness of the UN in New York and am spending a few days with my friends John & Rebecca in Jackson Tennessee.

My other friend Charles organized with his neighbor Brian to take me fishing yesterday.  Only problem was that Charles picked me up at 3.30am , a very early start. But we were in the water before 6am at sunrise. I caught a catfish first , then a drum fish which is rubbish so he got thrown back. It got up to 90F so was a bit hot.
However we caught a very nice catch.

Brian cooks the fish

Charles and Brian clean the catch

The catch 31 croppys and 1 catfish.

In the boat , Big Sandy Hook river.

No shooting sign

Sunday at Church

On Sunday morning I went to the same church I have attended in New York for the past 19 years. This is East 7th St Baptist Church or Grafittii Church.

A man from Lebanon gave his testimony and then his son preached and tap danced at the same time.

Then we did adult Sunday School , and after this there was a fundraising lunch. You had to pay $10 for a very simple lunch , but then the fun began. Pastor Kareem began the extra fundraising, He was supporting the older people's ministry and his elder son supporting the young people's work. The one who raised the least got a pie in the face. Well not a complete pie just the jam like topping. It got quite competitive as things were auctioned off and dramatic appeals made. The son got the pie in the face, however each side raised over $800.

The most fun fundraiser I have seen in a Baptist church.

Monday was Memorial day so I had a day off.

Today and Wednesday I will be at the NGO committee.

Aussie coppers

The other day I was wandering around the UN and discovered a display commemorating 50 years of help by the Australian Police around the world.

Good job by the Aussie coppers.

A lobby request from SPUC - UK only

Dear Friends,

The Education Select Committee has launched an inquiry into personal, social and health education (PSHE) in schools.  PSHE covers a number of topics such as drug education, healthy eating and so on.  Sex and relationship education (SRE) is also covered in this topic.

We are very concerned that this inquiry will be used to make sex education a compulsory schools subject.  This would mean that children as young as five years old would have to learn about sexual matters.  Parents would be unable to protect their children from inappropriate teaching.

It is absolutely vital that there is an overwhelming response from parents, grandparents, teachers, clergy and all concerned citizens saying "no" to compulsory sex education.  Compulsory sex education will sever parents from the moral upbringing of their children.  And the innocence of children will be wiped out by ever more sexual content in the classroom.

Every school will be affected by this. Every child deserves to be protected.

Please find attached a briefing to help you respond to this inquiry.  You will also find the briefing document at www.spuc.org.uk   Please circulate the briefing as widely as possible asking others to respond to the inquiry. The deadline for this inquiry is 6 June 2014.

With every good wish,

Antonia Tully

p.s. you may have seen this frightening report today:
 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10818572/NHS-chiefs-tell-ministers-Change-sex-education-lessons-to-make-all-pupils-learn-about-gay-marriage.html

The NHS in Scotland wants:
  • all children to learn about gay marriage in sex education lessons
  • children to be given the power to overrule their parents
  • a stop to parents campaigning against the content of sex education lessons
  • training for teachers to help them overcome their objections to gay marriage

A request from Wilfred Wong

I never ask for money for myself on this blog , and this is the first time I have asked any of you to support other Christians in raising fund. Please prayerfully consider Wilfred's request as seen below.
Dear Peter,
I am doing a 100 kilometre walk next month from June 20 to 22, 2014 to raise money for 2 charities, one of which is the Assyrian Aid Society in Iraq, the leading Christian charity in Iraq helping Iraq's severely persecuted Christians and also the Syrian Christians who fled to Iraq as refugees.
Over 12,000 Christian families in Iraq have been displaced within that country by relentless persecution from Islamic extremists. Many are short of money for basic necessities like food and rent.
I have visited Iraq twice and seen the intense suffering of the Christians there firsthand including hearing testimonies from a father whose son was kidnapped and beheaded simply because he was a Christian and a mother whose husband was blown up by Islamic extremists then her daughter kidnapped by the Muslims, never to be seen again.
My 100 km walk will be through mainly forest and countryside and has to be completed within 48 hours.
The other charity is a UK Christian charity called ChildAid to Russia and the Republics which helps poor children and orphans in Eastern Europe.
I have known ChildAid for many years, since 1989, and they are a very good Christian charity.
ChildAid has agreed that 50% of whatever money my 100 km  walk raises will be sent to the Assyrian Aid Society in Iraq.
ChildAid will send this money by bank transfer to AAS Iraq.
The other 50% which goes to ChildAid will be used for their work with poor, vulnerable children in Ukraine and Moldova.
Please see my attached article about this important work.
I need help with publicising this 100 km walk to people who may be interested in giving to the AAS and ChildAid.
Can you help by sharing this information with your network of friends and contacts who might be interested in giving to these causes?
Please also consider if you can give towards this long charity walk.

Feeling a bit crabby !

Had a very nice sea trial the other day and caught a few crabs. Boat worked very well.

Today I am leading the pre-service prayer meeting at my Church , helping with the Lords table then flying to London. On Monday I shall set up our stand at the Christian Resources Exhibition ( CRE ) at Esher.  The CRE runs for 4 days. After this I am off to the USA for 2 weeks.

So May is a busy month for me. I shall try to do regular updates at the CRE next week.

A brief update

Thought it was fixed
Earlier in the year I was out in my wee boat and the steering failed. I turned the steering wheel , heard a clicking ,and the outboard did not move.
I then replaced the steering , it all looked good , tested it in the water and the controls operated in reverse. Also the control box for the throttle and gear box failed.
So I refitted the steering on the opposite side of the boat , and now she steers correctly . Also put in a new control box.

Last week I was in London and we now have a wonderful lady called Dr Lisa Nolland on the SPUC evangelicals committee.

Tomorrow I fly to London to attend the funeral of a young Christian man , David Bell , who leaves behind a widow and two small children.
